Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport workers affected by Comair closure gain $2.8 million in employment assistance from US Labor Department

The U.S. Department of Labor today announced a $2,774,736 National Emergency Grant to assist about 350 workers affected by the closure of Comair at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport in Erlanger, Ky. The funding will provide employment services to affected workers who reside in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.

"Workers who have the skills and training employers need right now have greater success finding jobs," said acting Secretary of Labor Seth D. Harris. "The federal grant announced today will help former Comair workers better position themselves for available jobs in growing industries."

This grant is being awarded to the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet to provide training and support services to the affected workers. Comair was a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.

Of the $2,774,736 announced today, $1,356,574 will be released initially. Additional funding, up to the amount approved, will be made available as the commonwealth demonstrates a continued need for assistance.
